6/6/06, a dorm room at the University of Vermont: I don't understand why people wear "nice" clothes
to certain functions. I didn't understand it when I was a kid, either. I remember asking people why we
wore "nice" clothes to church. "It's God house," they would explain. "We want to look nice in God's house."
As I got older, I began to wonder if God really cared what I wore to church. My guess was no, which led me
to another thought: were people really dressing "up" to impress others? And is that the real reason they
were going to church, because society expected them to do it? I say humbug to all that. No one should do
something just because everyone else expects it.
