The Somebody Else’s Problem Field

This is a paragraph that I had to write for English class. I chose the Somebody Else's Problem field from the excellent Hitchhiker's Guide series. Mrs. Hanson thought I was pretty weird, but she enjoyed the paragraph anyway.

One of the most useful devices in the Hitchhiker’s Guide series is the Somebody Else’s Problem field, or S.E.P. First of all, the nice thing about a Somebody Else’s Problem field is that it allows you to hide things that you don’t want seen. This would be very helpful for hiding military secrets, confidential documents, or even your report card from your parents. A second feature of the S.E.P. field is that it can run on the power of a single flashlight battery. Because it relies on people’s natural tendency to not see what they don’t want to, cost is not even an issue when considering an S.E.P. field. And lastly, the best breakthrough for the S.E.P. field is that 999,999,999,999 times out of 1,000,000,000,000 it is easier to erect a cheap S.E.P. field around something then to go and actually make it invisible. This makes it much easier for the common Joe Blow to hide something, since he doesn’t have to be a scientomagician to successfully do it. All this taken into account, the simple truth is that the Somebody Else’s Problem field is one of the best ideas in the entire Hitchhiker’s Guide series.
