Dear Puaolena

Some Hawaiian girl mailed our class in English and we had to all write her a letter back. This was my letter.

Dear Puaolena,

I want to personally thank you for writing my English class in Madison, Alabama. It brightened my day in new and unprecedented ways, and I enjoyed hearing about Hawaii very much. It sounds as if you lead a very nice life.

My name is Kenneth [last name here], and I am currently fifteen, my birthday being on April 10th. I have a dad, a mom, three brothers, and two sisters. I share a room upstairs with my oldest brother.

I am currently involved in band, in which I play the trumpet, computer science team, and an academic challenge team, in which you learn random information and how to quickly remember them when asked a question. I also go to a Baptist church every Wednesday and Sunday.

My hobbies include messing around on the Internet (especially AIM, my screen name is bobgrocerforever), playing video games, and amateur stop-motion filming. Another thing that I like is that very good, wholesome book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It is written by Douglas Adams, a dead Britain, and is the first in a five-book trilogy. It is the funniest thing that I have ever read, and I encourage you to find it and read it (which is what one normally does with books).

I moved to Madison this summer, so I actually don’t know much about it to describe it. The one thing that I do know is that it is dull and boring. To quote The Hitchhiker’s Guide, "Even traveling despondently is better than arriving here."

Alabama as a whole is generally just as full of rednecks as foreigners think it is, even in a high-class establishment such as Madison. People talk about hunting and fishing, and some people have such an accent that I sometimes wonder if they are speaking English at all.

My heritage is Irish or something European like that. I was born in 506 B.C. in Athens, Greece. Well, I must be going. Have a nice life, and I hope that you enjoyed my letter!

Yours truly,
Kenneth [last name here]
