8/28/06, my room in the duplex: You know those movie critics that TV spots for films are always quoting?
You know, like, "Terrific...I loved it." - "Nonagon" John Johnson, MovieReviewsRUs.com. I was thinking about
those quotes the other day, and the possibility occured to me that things may not always be what they seem.
What if the film distributors are grossly misquoting their sources? "Nonagon" John Johnson's review may have
actually read, "Terrific if you like to be tortured with a few hours of mind-numbing stupidity. This movie
made me despise the fact that my job is to watch movies and say what I think of them. Luckily, I was able to
sneak into Revenge of the Ancient Mariner afterwards. It was a great movie. Besides the two little
punks sitting in front of me who laughed at all the wrong times, I loved it." I guess I can't give these guys
too hard of a time. Most of the citations in my English paper-writing career were a distortion, if not the
exact opposite, of what the original author was trying to say.
