12/21/05, my parents' house - Big Trouble in Little China reminds me of The X-Files in that the movie doesn't explain half of the stuff that happens. It just throws a bunch of Asian folklore into a pot with Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrell and a bunch of Chinamen and out pops one of the cult hits that came of the 80s. It's all about some ancient Chinese sorcerer named Lo Pan who is a really creepy old guy by the 80s. He has to marry and kill a woman with green eyes that fulfills an unexplained prophecy. If I were Chinese, I think I would probably be insulted by this movie. If I were Kurt Russell, I would probably be embarrassed for having played such a stereotypical 80s-macho-hero role. I guess we all have to get our start somewhere. Speaking of starts, since when is Kim Cattrell good looking? She sure has fallen a long way to Sex and the City.
