Dental Demises

For some, life is like a roll of dental floss.
The length of the string steadily and slowly
winds down to a silent and sudden stop.

For most, life is like a tube of toothpaste.
They can see the end, and they squeeze and squeeze
until there isn't enough for another day.

For a few, life is like a toothbrush.
After years of pressure, the head snaps.
Broken and useless, they are thrown into
the small trash basket beside the sink.

Ah, the Poetics.
